Three Card Monte, 1979. Oil on canvas, 30 x 45 inches.
Capturing the drama of an illegal activity was an exciting theme for a painting. After developing the composition and choreography in a pencil sketch, friends posed individually in my studio. The person looking at me, the artist, is my wife, Miryam. For the background, I decided to paint Central Park instead of the usual city streets.
